TENERIFE 2024

Here we are back in good old Tenerife.

Forget the bars and clubs and heaving Hotels and man- made beaches, that’s our Idea of hell!

Find a quiet resort. In our case Las Gigantes up on the North West coast. A small fishing village with just enough restaurants and bars.

I hired the bike a Honda 500x (perfect for the job) from Moto for fun in Adje, about an hour’s bus ride from our hotel. It’s always one of my favourite things, get an early bus and chat to the locals on their way to work. It’s surprising what you can learn from them.

Brilliant service and well maintained new bikes from Moto, they were really helpful.

Off we went straight up in to the Corona forest fantastic roads and riding right up to the volcano.

Mt Teide National park. Its  a great place to ride, the roads are like silk and traffic in January was
minimal.

The TF 21 climbs slowly up through the lava fields up to the cable car at Mt Teide base station.
(make sure you book tickets in advance as there is no ticket office now and the internet up there is slow, rides book days in advance).

You can do a circuit of the park in a day. It's about a five hour ride over to La Orotava along the coast on the TF5 via Santiago and Vilaflor.

Also the TF28 runs from Playa de las Americas  through countless towns and villages all the way to Santa Cruiz,  about a 2 ½ hour ride with stops and lunch.

You may think it’s a small Island , but there’s enough riding for 3 or 4 nicely paced days on the bike

Including some stops for lunch and sightseeing and on a beach for a swim.

If you shop around there’s very reasonably priced restaurants and bars up in the hills used by the locals.

Bike hire is about 65 euros a day including jackets and helmets.
(We always take our own).
