CORFU 2023
Corfu is a great island to explore, mostly winding country roads with superb views.
From Paleokastritsa in the west to Kassiopi in the east, with its fabulous views over Romania.
This is not fast riding by any means. All you need is a mid-range bike and a map as the signage leaves a lot to be desired.
Google Maps is not always 100% right. especially if it concerns the “fastest route”. The best advice: always use your own head and think wisely which way to take. Sometimes, it wants to lead you right through a gravel road or through the olive tree plantations. (As we found out the hard way!)
Nether the less it is always fun to ride all morning and find one of its secret quiet beaches for lunch and a swim.
Corfu’s coast is sprinkled with resorts, some more appealing than others. Corfu is not only known for its beaches – of which there are well over 100 – but also for the fact that it’s home to a celebrated UNESCO World Heritage site. Specifically, the Old Town of Corfu is protected by UNESCO, due to the fact that it is a Medieval City.
The tavernas are at every corner and invite you to an incredible tasting experience. On most menus, you will find the traditional Greek dishes, such as Gyros and grilled fish and Tzatziki. But make sure to keep an eye out for the Corfiot dishes as well. They are slightly different but not less delicious. The stuffed peppers and tomatoes for example are absolute must-try.
We visited in June the weather was perfect and bike hire was plentiful.
